We offer an independent service with our Accelerant Detection Canine to fire departments, law enforcement agencies and insurance companies (among others) to detect an ignitable liquid that could be used by an arsonist to set a fire. We are one of only 2 accelerant detection canine teams located in the state of Minnesota.
A dog's sense of smell is said to be a thousand times more sensitive than that of us humans. In fact a dog has over 220 million olfactory receptors in his nose while we humans only have 5 million olfactory receptors in our nose. It is because of the canine's keen sense of smell that dogs are able to locate many things from lost individuals, disaster survivors, human remains, illegal drugs, tumors in humans and an accelerant used to deliberately set fire by an arsonist.
Accelerant Detection Canines are trained to detect raw or burned ignitable liquids used by arsonists to start fires. For example they can detect gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, lamp oil, charcoal lighter fluid, and paint thinner to name only a few.
